Strandweave is a native Mac app for recording and transcribing meetings and working sessions — without a bot, without a cloud upload, and without compromising what you capture.
Why Strandweave exists
Meeting recorder tools have followed the same playbook for years: a bot joins your call as a participant, sends your audio to a cloud server, and returns a transcript. That model works — but it comes with trade-offs. The bot appears in the participant list. Others can see it. Your audio travels through someone else's infrastructure. The recording is stored remotely, subject to someone else's retention policy.
Strandweave takes the opposite approach. It records from your Mac's microphone directly, runs transcription locally using the Whisper runtime, and keeps everything on your device. No participant entry. No cloud upload. No external dependency after install.
Local by design
The decision to keep everything on-device wasn't a feature — it was the starting constraint. If the recording and transcript live on your Mac, you control them. You decide what to keep, what to export, and where it goes. There's no account to secure, no remote server to trust, and no dependency on a third-party service staying online or keeping your data safe.
This makes Strandweave a good fit for sensitive conversations: client work, research interviews, internal planning, anything where you'd rather the recording not leave your hands. It's also just simpler — install it, use it, everything stays where you put it.
Made for Mac
Strandweave is a native macOS application, built for macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It lives in your menu bar, respects system permissions, and fits into your existing Mac workflow. There's no Electron wrapper, no web runtime, and no cross-platform compromise.
The Whisper transcription runtime is bundled with the app. You don't need to install anything separately or maintain a local model. Download, open, and it's ready.
Who makes it
